Cleaning Your Wooden Dining Sets

Purchasing dining sets is a pretty extensive purchase. You want a piece that is affordable, but durable, and will hold up after a lot of use. It’s inevitable that your table and chairs will see their fair share of spills. Even the most careful eaters aren’t perfect. What is important is taking the proper steps to not only clean the spills, but protect your furniture from damages. At Chair Fair, we want you to feel comfortable and knowledgeable when it comes to your dining sets.

Keep it Simple

Wood furniture is great because it looks sophisticated and elegant, and can withstand the test of time. It can, however, be easily damaged if you’re not careful. We advise against using traditional counter cleaners, as they can contain harsh chemicals that can damage your dining set and wear away the protective coating over time. You can buy cleaning supplies specific to wooden furniture, but be careful that they don’t contain protective coatings. These can build up over time and take even more effort to remove.

Make Your Own Cleaner

For every day spills, there are a few home remedies that can help you keep your wooden furniture in tip-top shape. First, fill a bowl with warm water. Next, add a little bit of dish soap and vinegar, and mix it all together. Dip a cloth in the bowl, and use the cloth to wipe the table. The dish soap and vinegar will disinfect your table as well as remove stains. Make sure the cloth is moist, not saturated, so you don’t apply too much. Once you’re finished, wipe the table down with an another cloth that just has water on it, then another dry cloth. Drying the table will prevent excess moisture from seeping into the wood and causing damage.

Never use scrubbing pads on a wooden surface, as it can wear away the protective finish and cause scratches. We want your dining sets to last for years to come, and are excited to educate our customers on how to best take care of their purchases. For more information, please call us at (781) 843-3300.
