High or Low?
First things first. Is your kitchen’s seating area around a table or at a counter or kitchen island? Before you decide on any other features, you need chairs that are the right height. Some kitchens have seating in multiple areas and need both high and low chairs. If that’s your kitchen, you’ll have to decide if you want them to match or if you want to separate the areas. A kitchen set with matching table and chairs creates the look of a casual dining area. Whether or not you want the seating at the island or counter to be included in that area depends on your taste and the layout of your kitchen.
To Bench or Not to Bench?
Benches are a seating arrangement often found in farmhouse kitchens, but other styles are starting to adopt them as well. Some people don’t like the look of a bench, or they find them uncomfortable or awkward. But others think that they are a great way to easily get a lot of people around the table. If you have a lot of kids, or neighbors and school friends are often over for dinner, you’ll be grateful for the extra seating. Kids especially don’t mind sitting on the kitchen bench for dinner, and you can squeeze a lot of kids onto one bench!
