To Cushion or Not Cushion: That Is the Question

When it comes to dining chairs, there are many things to consider. You have to think about the height. How tall is your table? Do you want traditional wood? Or would you prefer a contemporary glass table and metal chairs? But above all, the most important question you can ask yourself is this: do you want your dining chairs to have cushions?

Now, before you argue about how there are much more significant decisions than whether or not your chairs have cushions, hear me out.

“But Chair Fair, what about the color? What if it doesn’t match the rest of my furniture? Surely that is much more important.”

Nope. It isn’t. Think about it. The dining table is probably the place you’ll spend most of your time, and you want to be comfortable. Let’s do some easy math. Say dinner takes 30 minutes to eat, and you eat at home at least five times a week. That’s 150 minutes a week or 2 and a half hours! By these estimates, that’s 130 hours a year! If you’re spending 130 hours in a chair, we sure hope you like it.

We’re not trying to push you in any direction – we have thousands of chairs, both with and without cushions. We’re just trying to state facts and help you pick out the best option for you.

Pro-Cushion

The biggest argument for the chair cushion is the comfort. As we said, you spend a lot of time here; you should be comfortable. But another, lesser-known pro-cushion argument is the amount of customization you can have by adding the cushion. Think about it! Sans cushion, your options are hard wood or hard metal. But when you add the pillow, you can choose how much or how little “fluff” you want!

Anti-Cushion

The number one positive for no cushion is the easy cleanup. If you or your family are messy eaters or anything with tomato sauce or red wine are regularly on the menu, you may want to think about whether or not cushions are for you. Hard surfaces are much easier to clean. And don’t think you’re sacrificing comfort for no cushions! Our chairs are carefully designed to be as comfortable as possible, with or without an added pillow.

There you have it. Cut and dry. Just the facts. So, now it’s up to you. Regardless of your choice, come down to our showroom on Washington Street in Weymouth to check out our large variety of over 100 dining sets and 300 bar stools on display!
